Gander Mountain Closing Near You? Find an Alternative Outdoor Athletic Dealer
Where I live in Mankato, Minnesota, Gander Mountain has closed its doors to the public on its large big box retail store location near the River Hills Mall. That was a major blow for Gander Mountain, as Mankato is young and fast growing community. But Scheels and Play It Again Sports, who were here before Gander Mountain arrived, are still the prevailing retailers of sports and outdoors goods in Mankato, at least as far as brick and mortar stores are concerned. Then we decided to open an online sports retailer based in Mankato, called SportsGearOutdoors, an alternative to stores like Gander Mountain, who have been closing brick and mortar retail locations across the country.
It's Not Just Gander Mountain: Cabelas is Now Pro Bass Shops
Cabelas, also a Minnesota company, recently sold its operations to Pro Bass Shops. This shouldn't be a huge surprise. Pro Bass Shops has the infrastructure and size to scale, but they also recognize Minnesota and Wisconsin as the freshwater fishing destinations they are. Minnesota is also a huge outdoors, recreation and athletic destination. We are in the process of completing a pro soccer stadium and just finished the TCF Minnesota Gophers stadium and US Bank Stadium for the Vikings. The Target Center is home to the Timberwolves basketball team and Target Field is reserved for Twins Baseball. The Wild NHL hockey team plays at the Exel Energy Center. Here in Mankato, the Minnesota State Mavericks play at the Verizon Wireless Civic Center.
